TACKLING

• A tackle occurs when the ball carrier is held by one or more opponents and is brought to ground. A ball carrier who is not held is not a tackled player and a tackle has not taken place. Opposition players who hold the ball carrier and bring that player to ground, and who also go to ground, are known as tacklers. Opposition players who hold the ball carrier and do not go to ground are not tacklers.

• A penalty will immediately be awarded when a tackle is above the shoulder. This being a high tackle. You would most probably see a yellow card resulting in a sin bin to the tackling player for a high tackle or in worst case scenarios a red card. Another rule within tackling is that you must tackle when the player has the ball. If you

tackle the player after the ball has been passed you can get yellow carded and a penalty awarded to the other team.
